No one can do entrepreneurship on their own. Internally, we know that. There is a significant benefit in asking for help. It even gives the person we ask for a boost in their happiness. It encourages human connection and reminds us that we are part of a community. Collaboration, receiving feedback, and having a supportive ecosystem is a big part of building a business. So why is it so hard to ask for help?
On March 21st, Denkyem hosted Third Thursday at Drum Roll Wine. On the 3rd Thursday of each month we bring together Black leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals to engage in meaningful dialog. March’s topic was “Giving and Receiving Support”—a crucial conversation for our community.
Throughout the night, we heard some incredible stories from the community. From the challenges we’ve faced to the opportunities, we could create if we receive the support and resources needed. There was laughter, lightbulb moments, and real talk.
We found that our community is very willing to help each other out. Many of the guests called out ways in which they were able to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Now we are all challenged with the question, have we reached out and followed through with the folks willing to help?
We are thankful to the community that showed up. Their authenticity reminded us of what we know to be true: we are stronger together. No matter where you are in your journey, we hope that you have a space to make genuine connections, show up vulnerable, ask for help, and be fully appreciated for your talents. When you are part of a thriving community, the world opens up to what you can achieve.
Next month, we hope you can join us to discuss “Innovation and Adaptation”. As space is limited to 35 people, we encourage early registration. https://denkyemcoop.com/third-thursday
